General Description

The main purpose is the training of:

Under-graduate nursing students’ in nursing skills based on the following classes:

1. Fundamentals of Nursing, Surgical Nursing, Nursing Assessment, Neurological-Neurosurgical Nursing, Occupational Health, using various Models and instruments, as well as methods of demonstration

2. Graduate nursing students. Group work is done on research protocols and analysis of clinical cases

3. New hospital nurses training in specific skills, providing care to Hospital patients in G.O. Kifissia Hospital “Agioi Anargiri”.

Students develop theoretical and clinical skills necessary for the provision of holistic individualized care to individuals, families and groups in various health and illness situations, critical thinking and an understanding of the principles that support, interpret, and document nursing interventions.

In addition, groups of experts are organized for reviewing and adapting research instruments (questionnaires & scales).

The research work of the laboratory is reflected on the doctoral theses and the funded research programs, which are carried out in cooperation with other Universities of Greece and abroad.

Moreover, the Clinical Nursing Applications Lab is collaborated with the Clinical Guidelines Development Team of the Emergency and Intensive Care Nursing Department of the Hellenic Nurses Association. Also with the Greek Nursing Studies Association for the continuing nursing education and training mainly in advanced clinical skills, as well as with the Greek Medical Students' Association for the education of medical students in various clinical skills.

Infrastructure

The laboratory has equipment and mannequins (simple and simulation) for training in basic and advanced nursing interventions.

  • The effects of Guided Imagery and Progressive Muscle Relaxation Intervention in Cancer Patients, funded by the Euro-Mediterranean Research Center for Oncology and Palliative Care. Collaborators: Dr A. Charalambous (Cyprus University of Technology, Department of Nursing) - Prof. M. Giannakopoulou - (NKUA, Department of Nursing, Greece).
  • Investigation of clinical nursing decision making process in Intensive Care Units. Funded by the scholarship “Herakleitos II”.  Scientific Responsible Prof. M. Giannakopoulou.
