Research Interests

• Surgical anatomy of the esophagus: the importance of anatomical structures of the posterior mediastinum (Chrysikos, Piperos, Theodoropoulos, Zoulamoglou, Zarokosta, Mariolis-Sapsakos).
• Surgical anatomy of the esophagus: the importance of anatomical structures of the posterior mediastinum (Chrysikos, Piperos, Theodoropoulos, Zoulamoglou, Zarokosta, Mariolis-Sapsakos).
• Surgical anatomy of the thyroid and the parathyroid glands: the role of the binocular loop (x3,5) in the detection of the arterial supply of the parathyroid glands in order to avoid surgical accidental damage of the vessels (Piperos, Patrinos, Zarokosta, Kalles, Flessas, Drositi, Mariolis-Sapsakos).
• Alterations of the anatomical structure of the anterior and posterior peroneal vein due to thrombosis, caused by malignancy and their detection via ultrasonography (Dimakakos, Papapanagiotou, Scarpas, Nikas, Flessas, Drositi, Mariolis-Sapsakos).
• Anatomical study of the lymph vessels of the pelvis and detection of sentinel lymph-nodes in cases of diseases of the cervical womb (Papapanagiotou, Migkli, Dimakakos, Chrysikos, Piperos, Zoulamoglou, Flessas, Mariolis-Sapsakos).
• Operating anatomy and proprioception of the posterior chiasmal ligament- performance of total arthroplasty of the joint of the patellar joint after trauma of the kneecap and its ligaments   (Scarpas, Piperos, Flessas, Zarokosta, Theodoropoulos, Bistaraki, Mariolis-Sapsakos).

Research Programmes

• Surgical anatomy of the large intestine: investigation of lymph nodes excised via operation when encountering anatomical anomalies of the vessels that supply the bowels (Varlatzidou, Piperos, Zoulamoglou, Chrysikos, Zarokosta, Mariolis-Sapsakos).
• Surgical anatomy of the liver. investigation of anatomical structures that constitute key points that guide us through the detection of the portal vein and its branches when approaching the liver’s segment via the liver’s gate in order to perform a more safe and reliable surgery (Chrysikos, Piperos, Patrinos, Varlatzidou, Zoulamoglou, Zarokosta, Nikas, Mariolis-Sapsakos).
• The utilisation of 3d printers in the teaching procedure of anatomy in health-care faculties (Nikas, Scarpas, Papapanagiotou, Dimakakos, Flessas, Zarokosta, Drositi, Chrysikos, Mariolis-Sapsakos).
• Surgical anatomy of the pancreas: investigation of the vessel pathways for avoidance of the superior mesenteric artery when encountering malignancy of the pancreas (Piperos, Chrysikos, Kakaviatos, Varlatzidou, Zoulamoglou, Patrinos, Mariolis-Sapsakos).
